This project was modern style hillside home in Sherman Oaks that we built in 2001. Given the fact this was a hillside home of tremendous weight, concrete and steel caissons were installed deep into the hillside in order to provide foundational strength for this home. Steel beams were attached to the caissons and bolted and welded together. After the steel beams were installed, we did all of the in-fill framing. A tremendous amount of lumber was used in order to fill in all the spaces in the metal framing. Also during construction the owner decided to add one additional bathroom to the top floor so we did. We also wrapped the entire building with plywood In order to give it added structural and lateral strength. This project was a big success! We took a cardboard and balsa wood concept model and turned that modernistic design into a 45' tall concrete, steel, wood and stucco masterpiece!
